Wester Hailes’ 50th Anniversary Celebrations

(This is an archived post from Trust’s original wordpress website, originally published in 2019)

2019 marks 50 years since the first residents moved into Wester Hailes in 1969 and the Wester Hailes Community Trust wants to make it a year to remember with plenty of events and activities to celebrate the community here. Planning has started and there are already some events in the diary including

  • Wester Hailes Fun Run/ Walk with some added 50th celebrations

  • Summer Festival with music and BBQ organised by Open Heavens Church

  • Summer Football Tournament organised by SCOREscotland

  • Baby Naming Ceremonies organised by WHALE to celebrate babies born during the anniversary year

  • September Parade to Hailes Quarry Park organised by Edinburgh and Lothian Greenspace Trust and WHALE Arts

  • 50 trees planted in the area co-ordinated by Prospect Community Housing

  • Winter Torchlight Parade organised by WHALE Arts.

The Trust is keen to encourage as much activity as possible and has funding available to support 50th celebration activities. If you have an idea or are involved with a group running an event this year that you think could be part of the 50th celebrations then get in touch with the Wester Hailes Community Trust on 0131 458 3267 or info@westerhailesct.org.uk.
